Hi Everyone:
Well, we're off and running in the new year and the Student Council is waiting for late buses to start running so that we can get down to the business of making Chestnut a better and more successful place for everyone. We hope to be starting our work soon, because our first presentation to the School Committee is scheduled for October 7th, and it would be nice to have some progress to report by that time.
This year's Council hopes to continue the great work of last year's Council, and many of the students who participated last year are returning for more. We will be looking to grade 6, ELA teachers for recommendations for new members, and will be interviewing in October, once the schedule settles in. If you are an interested student reading this page, please talk to your ELA teacher about recommending you. He or she will take into account your interest level, but also your grades and your behavior.
Again, this year, the Student Council will be running the school store, under the supervision of Mr. Brown, the Librarian. The proceeds from the store will be going to fund literacy and reading-comprehension projects in the school, and maintaining the library collection (which is dwindling as a result of lost, stolen, and damaged materials).
We will be meeting shortly to brainstorm and create a plan for activities, events, and initiatives that we will make happen this year. If you have thoughts or suggestions, please send them to Mr. Brown at brownwi@sps.springfield.ma.us, or pass them along to your councilors. Their names, grades, and brief introductions will be posted under the link to the right entitled, "Contact the Council"
Please keep checking here for updates of our progress.
Thanks in advance for your support.
- Mr. Brown and the Student Council

yeah whoever keeps leaving the store a mess needs to pick up after themselves.Everytime the 8th grade opens up there is pencil containers, or some other contaainer left on the counter, also I think that we need to have a meeting about the changes made to the white board.I think that each lunch or shift should pick up the store before they leave so that the next shift does have to do twice the cleaning!
